During the process of documentation, the active, posing body is turned into a passive one. In the formation of a norm, bodies were fixed and mapped through photographic processes and casts. In this way, not only the norm, but also the pathological, which is separated from it, is constructed. Through shifts and irregularities, the negative form reveals the difficulty of indicating what it means to have a body and to be a body.
In a critical approach on the historical casting of the living, Julia Hainz and Peter Oberloher are trying to intervene: In repeated medial translations, bodies and images stage the act of fixation in a fragmented way.
