The Symbiotic Approach is an ongoing research project by Julia Hainz and Carmen Westermeier to develop an artistic method for making site specific power relations performatively visible.
As in a society that is based on standardization, bodies can only be read in their physiognomic and functional differences, Julia Hainz & Carmen Westermeier attempt to produce forms of counter-narratives by focusing on a »symbiotic« relationship to each other.
They are appropriating the concept of symbiosis, which in biology describes the interaction between two individuals of different species and transfer this idea to the interaction of their two bodies in performances, whose symbiosis is constructed through various media.
